Swimming

So the new sports centre opened today so I decided to go swimming. I am aiming to go swimming once or twice a week to try and improve my fitness. I realised today that I haven’t actually been swimming for over 2 years now. The last time I went swimming would have been in the 2nd week in my first year. This showed a little thisevening as I it was quite a struggle to start doing any real distance. I am not expecting to get back to the stage I was in my second year of senior school where I did a 5 mile sponsered swim in aid of the schools new sports centre, but it would be nice to be able to do a mile.

Delays and errors

So despite the fact that the opening of the new imperial sports center had been put back due to it not being ready, it appears that even when it fully opens on monday it will still not be finnished. I went and registered today (mananged to get ther before there was a big rush) and then went on a tour arround the building, and there were still areas that are not ready such some of the changing rooms, and then there is the squash courts that won’t be ready till march. Another thing that was quite ammusing was that obviously in the rush to make sure that everything was ready for monday the climbing registration form had been added to the web, and was then removed as it appears that no-one had checked it. The form contained various questions which you had to answer yes or no to. Then at the bottom it said if you had answered no to any of the questions then you needed to be supervised, however one of the questions actually needed to be answerd as no.

Filling Up

It’s great to have the moped back again after 6 months without it. It means that I can get into college faster and cheaper than getting the bus, as well as other advantages. The problem however is how little fuel the tank holds (about 4L). Although this lasts a long time with the bike doing about 80 miles to the gallon the one thing that is important to remember is filling up ASAP after switching to reserve. Of course the other day I forgot this, thinking to myself that there would be enough fuel to get me to the petrol station when I next used the bike. Unfortunately there wasn’t, so this evening I had to push the bike from the albert hall to the petrol station on old brompton Rd. Had I just gone there yesterday before getting to college I would have probably just managed it. Hopefully I will remember today when I next switch to reserve, and fill up instantly.
